WSSC Water employs a dedicated group of meter readers who work hard to collect usage data from the more than 500,000 inside and outside meters we have in our service area.
While our meter readers can access most residential inside meters remotely from the outside of the home, sometimes your home's remote touchpad may be inaccessible or not working. When this occurs and they cannot collect the exact usage data from your meter, you will receive an estimated bill.

The following video provides helpful instructions on how to locate your inside meter and how to read it:
If you received an estimated bill and have an outside meter, do not attempt to read this meter. Instead, please call our Customer Service at 301-206-4001.
Outside meters are typically located in the front yard or the common area by the curb. However, they can also be in a driveway, sidewalk, or street. Some outside meters share a meter pit and may be located in front of a neighbor’s home or, in some cases, on another street.
Please be aware of where your outside meter is located so you can ensure our meter readers can access your outside meter.
You can request a check reading or you can ask to witness the reading for your outside meter. A check reading will not require anyone to be at home. However, if you would like to witness your meter reading, you can set an appointment with one of our customer service advisors at 301-206-4001.
