What's Your Pipe Type?
The What’s Your Pipe Type? program helps customers identify and verify the material of their water service line, the pipe that runs from WSSC Water’s water main to their home or business.

What Happens if Lead Is Found?
If your water service line is verified as containing lead, WSSC Water strongly recommends replacement.
- We plan to begin replacing lead service lines in late 2025—well ahead of the EPA's 2027 requirement.
- Our goal is to complete all lead service line replacements by 2037, in compliance with the EPA.
How We're Prioritizing
We're focusing our efforts based on the following criteria:
- Schools and daycare facilities
- Properties with children or pregnant women
Planning To Replace Your Side?
Please notify us at
PipeType@wsscwater.com if your water service line is verified as lead and you plan to replace the customer-owned portion.
The EPA requires that the utility-owned portion must be replaced at the same time, if applicable.
Financial Assistance Is Coming
WSSC Water is currently developing a proposed comprehensive private side service line replacement program, which may include partial or full coverage of the cost to replace the private side.
If a property owner chooses to replace their private side service line before the financial assistance program is put in place, it is unknown at this time whether funds can be applied retroactively.
We will reach out directly to all customers who have not yet replaced their lead or GRR service line once the replacement program is available.
