What's Your Pipe Type?

One of the main goals with our What’s Your Pipe Type? program is to help customers identify and verify the material of their water service line.

A water service line is the pipe that carries water from WSSC Water’s water main to your property. service line

Use our interactive inventory map to:

  • Enter your address
  • See the known or reported pipe material
  • Complete a short survey to help us verify your pipe type

What Happens if Lead is Found?

If your water service line is verified as containing lead, WSSC Water strongly recommends replacement.

  • We plan to begin replacing lead service lines in late 2025—well ahead of the EPA's 2027 requirement.
  • Our goal is to complete all lead service line replacements by 2037, in compliance with the EPA.

How We're Prioritizing Replacements

We're focusing our efforts based on key criteria:

schools

Schools and Daycare Facilities

children

Properties with Children or Pregnant Women

disadvantaged Communities

Properties in Disadvantaged Communities

Planning to Replace Your Side?

If your water service line is verified as lead and you plan to replace the customer-owned portion, please notify us.

PipeType@wsscwater.com

The EPA requires that the utility-owned portion must be replaced at the same time, if applicable.

Financial Assistance is Coming

We're developing a financial assistance program to help cover the cost of replacing the customer-owned portion of the water service line.

More information will be available on our website when plans are finalized.
