Allentown Road Water Main Replacement/Relocation Project

Project Purpose & Status

WSSC Water replaced 3.57 miles of new PRITEC® coated ductile iron pipe with cathodic protection, ranging from 4-inch – 42-inch diameter, on Allentown Road between Temple Hills Road and Old Branch Avenue. The project was contractually completed in August 2025, although punch list items remain to include final paving and striping of the intersection of Allentown and Old Branch Avenue. 

Project Milestones include:

  • Construction Start – March 2022
  • Pipe Installation – January 2025
  • Roadway Paving - May 2025
  • Restoration and Tree Planting - June 2025
  • Relocation of 16” WM – August 2025
  • Cathodic Protection Testing – September 2025
  • Paving Remediation – Spring 2026

The new pipeline increases our ability to meet the drinking water needs of Southern Prince George’s County residents while ensuring infrastructure resiliency and redundancy. Project Audit

Project Audit

In July 2025, WSSC Water engaged WSP USA, Inc., an outside consulting firm, to conduct an independent evaluation and audit of this pipeline project. The goal of this independent review was to identify the underlying root causes of the challenges encountered and capture lessons learned to strengthen future project delivery.
